Our new Performing Arts program offers students the opportunity to explore a variety of elements in drama, dance, and music. In drama, students will explore improvisation, voice, movement, role, space, character, and time. In dance, students will refine their skills by developing a variety of dance styles. In music, students will learn about the element of music and sharpen their practical skills by learning how to play instruments such as the xylophone, ukulele, guitar, keyboard, and a variety of percussion instruments. Year 5 and 6 students will be offered the SIM program in Brass, Clarinet, Flute and Classical Guitar. The two key goals for this curriculum area are to improve social skills and critical thinking. This is achieved through experiential learning in the form of creative collaborative group tasks.
The Performing Arts will also offer many performance opportunities and extra-curricular performance groups throughout the year. Before school choir, welcomes students from years 3 to 6 to come and sing in a fun and welcoming environment. We will rehearse for school performances, such as school events and graduation, but also for local events. Students will rehearse weekly, practicing more detailed skills in singing and performance. Various other ensembles will run throughout the year depending on student interest. These may include ukulele groups, rock band, percussion groups, recorder groups and dance groups. Together, we hope to establish a Performing Arts program which fosters a love of the arts for the children and that is valued throughout the school and community.
