Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Community Members,
We hope this newsletter finds you all in good health and high spirits. I am delighted to share with you staffing updates, achievements and events taking place within our school community.
Staffing Update
Since our last newsletter we welcome to our staff Courtney Berich in Year 3, LA22 who has taken over Tricia Hammond’s position. We have also farewelled one of our Special Education Needs Education Assistants, Mrs Di Hallsworth. She has retired after a long career with the Department of Education and a member of staff at Ashdale Primary School since 2007. We thank her and wish her all the very best with her retirement.

Recently, three of our students represented Ashdale Primary at the school sport WA secondary schools’ cross country championships. Congratulations to Emma Hill and Callan McKinney, who competed in the 3000m Under 11s and Kavi Bhangu who ran 2000m in the Under 10 event. All three students placed very well and represented our school.
Events
On Friday 26 May, our students raised $691.90 for Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia by hosting a N.U.T. (No Uniform Today) event. This day raises awareness of children living with allergies and the donation should support this organisation with their research and campaign.
On Thursday 1 June, Year 5 and Year 6 students were provided with an opportunity to showcase their dancing skills at a Social Dance Evening. Students have engaged in dance lessons each week this term with instructors from Humphreys Dance School. It was wonderful to see the confidence and joy the children have developed and thank you to the staff and parents who were able to share this experience with the children.
Through the school’s involvement with the Fogarty EDvance school improvement program, we were provided with the parent workshop ‘Boost’. We had 30 families in attendance and they were provided with tools to support their child to be a successful reader.
Upcoming Events
We have an exciting line up of events and programs scheduled for the remainder of the term, please make sure you keep up-to-date by reading the Ashdale Express, published via Connect each Thursday. If you are not receiving these emails, please contact ashdale.ps@education.wa.edu.au to update your details.

National Simultaneous Storytime
In week 5 we joined 20,154 other schools & libraries from all over Australia for National Simultaneous Storytime. The whole school shared in the reading of the book The Speedy Sloth, by Australian author Rebecca Young & illustrator Heath McKenzie. It was a lovely story about a sloth who enters a running race. It was a great book to share the day before our Faction Cross Country to inspire students to have fun and give it a go!
In the lead up to the event students at Ashdale participated in various sloth activities. During Talking Books in the Library with Mrs Topping Year 1 to 3 learnt some sloth facts from a non-fiction book and watched a sloth video to see how slow they really are! We have some wonderful Year 3 sloth artwork on display in the library.
Our Pre-Primaries in LA3 visited their Year 6 buddy class LA29, to share the story time together. Then they enjoyed creating some sloth craft with the help of their buddies.
Chaplain's Chat
I hope that you are all travelling well as we are over the halfway point of Term 2!
An inspirational quote for us all to remember as we move towards the end of the First Semester.
You learn more from losing than winning. You learn how to keep on going.

WHAT’S NEXT AT THE P&C?
Colour Run will take place on 21st September 2023
Planning has started, and this will be the second Colour Run for Ashdale! We will need plenty of help for this event. Please look out for volunteer forms in the coming weeks.
NEEDING UNIFORMS?
If you have yet to join and follow the ‘Ashdale Primary School Second-Hand Items’ Facebook page, you’re missing out on the opportunity to make some serious savings!
This is a page that is administered by our P&C volunteers, but members have the ability to participate in the BUY/SELL of any Ashdale uniform items including the Ashdale school bag or library bag. You will be pleasantly surprised to find many good second-hand uniforms at heavily discounted prices!
If you wish to donate any second-hand uniforms, we thank you in advance for your generosity. Please hand your donation to the administration office, ensuring that items are in good, wearable condition. Proceeds from the sale of these donated uniforms will go directly into P&C projects.
CANTEEN WINTER MENU
Please remember to place your order via Qkr! Before 845am. If you miss this deadline, please call the school office and ask to be connected to the friendly canteen staff. You may then place an order over the phone, with payment to be made on Qkr.
Students from Yr1 are welcome to make a purchase directly from the canteen!
BE PART OF SOMETHING MORE - JOIN THE P&C
We hope all new families to Ashdale are settling in nicely. Even amongst the more seasoned Ashdale families, with Term 2 well underway, our students are hopefully feeling more confident in their new classroom and feel more familiar with their new group of teachers and educators.
Our P&C is always looking for volunteers to help us with various activities planned for Ashdale. Joining our P&C is easy! It only takes 2min on Qkr and just $1. You will then be alerted before each meeting, provided with an agenda and reports, be able to vote as we raise various motions and afterwards, you will be amongst the first to receive meeting minutes.
P&C meetings are full of useful information, not limited to just P&C activities. Our Principal is a frequent attendee and reports on the progress of the school’s strategic plans, its achievements and performance.
If you would like to know more about what it means to join the P&C, please reach out to our team at at pandc@ashdale.org.au or submit your details here!
The next P&C Meeting will take place on 6th June 2023
