Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Community Members,
Smooth Start to Term 2
Term 2 has commenced seamlessly, with students engaged and classes running smoothly. This follows the whirlwind of Term 1, during which all year levels successfully completed swimming lessons amidst the demands of NAPLAN assessments. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff and students for their collective efforts in making this possible.
Canteen Update
Our administration team is diligently working to secure a private provider to operate our school canteen. An Expression of Interest (EOI) is currently in progress. Should this initiative not come to fruition, we will explore alternative arrangements, including the possibility of employing canteen staff directly through the Department of Education. In the interim, the canteen temporary service is still running. You can register at http://www.schoollunchonline.com.au, choose from the lunch options and pay online. The cut off is now 9pm the night before as of tonight.
Student Arrival and Classroom Transitions
Each day, nearly 650 students enter the school grounds and transition into their classrooms with remarkable calmness and efficiency. This smooth process is a testament to the cooperation of our students and the support of our parent community.
Parent-Teacher Communication
We appreciate the understanding shown by our parent body regarding the importance of preserving the pre-school period for students to settle in. This consideration allows our teachers to focus on their instructional responsibilities. We encourage parents to schedule meetings in advance to discuss any concerns, ensuring that teachers can provide thoughtful and evidence-based responses.
CCTV at Ashdale Primary School
The school has a comprehensive CCTV network. This allows the school administration to monitor visitors to the school outside of normal hours. It also comes in handy to identify acts of vandalism, graffiti and anti-social behaviour.
Unfortunately, the signage to inform the public that the school has CCTV has deteriorated. New signs have been ordered and should be installed in the near future. Please share this information with community members who may use the school grounds.
Ashdale Primary Students Shine at Woolworths Cricket Blast!

On Friday 7th March, a group of enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 students proudly represented Ashdale Primary School at the Woolworths Cricket Blast carnival held at Kingsley Reserve. The event was a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their cricket skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a fun and supportive environment.
Our teams played with great spirit, displaying excellent communication, fair play, and plenty of energy throughout the day. Whether batting, bowling, or fielding, every student gave it their all and did Ashdale proud!
As overall winners on the day, Ashdale ‘Boys Blue’ team have now qualified for the Metro North Regional Finals being held in Week 5 of Term 4. A huge congratulations, and best of luck, to all players competing.
A big thank you to the staff and parent volunteers who helped make the day run smoothly, and congratulations to all the students involved for being such fantastic ambassadors of our school.
Well done, Team Ashdale!

President Report
Welcome to Term 2!
The end of Term 1 came quickly, and I was privileged to be an invited guest at the ANZAC Assembly in week 10. As always, it was a beautiful commemoration of the ANZACs, and I was able to lay a wreath on behalf of the P&C. Thank you to Mrs Leighton-Harris for her organisation of the assembly and including the P&C in this important date.
We kicked off Term 2 with Ride2School day on Friday which saw a huge number of students ride, scoot and walk to school. At lunchtime each year group had the opportunity to participate in the slow bike race, which is always enthusiastically attended, and we saw some seriously slow skills on display!
Our Mother’s Day stalls last week were incredibly successful and a heartfelt THANK YOU goes to all the wonderful parents, carers and community members who gave their time to run the stalls. Every moment you spent setting up, helping little ones choose gifts, or packing up afterwards made a real difference. Events like these simply wouldn’t happen without generous volunteers like you.
A very special thank you to our incredible fundraising coordinator, Nadia, who put so much time and effort into planning this event. She was the first to arrive and the last to leave each day, making sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Her passion and enthusiasm are a huge asset to our P&C, and our children are so lucky to have her.
I have been in discussion with the school to come up with a ‘wishlist’ of items that the P&C can contribute towards. These items can either be funded via the P&C outright, or it can be a larger joint project (much like the Ninja Playground). We welcome any suggestions from our community for consideration through the P&C email pandc.ashdaleps@outlook.com
Finally, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended our last P&C meeting which focussed on the P&C running of the canteen. After robust and extensive discussion, it was decided that the P&C would hand the canteen back to the school for management. The P&C executive team have spent the last few weeks selling final stock and tidying up the canteen in preparation for handover to any new canteen tenants. This decision was not made lightly, as there are obviously many benefits to having an on-site canteen, however we continue to work closely with the school to find a successful long-term canteen solution for our community.
If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, we’d love to welcome you. Whether it’s 30 minutes or a few hours, your time means so much and helps create lasting memories for our kids. Keep an eye out for upcoming events, and we hope to see you at the next P&C meeting in week 7.
